Competition for a primary school in Basel
A school designed around stone, earth and timber. The project explores an architecture in which materials, structure and climate form a single system.
Natural ventilation, thermal mass, night cooling and solar shading are integrated into the design from the outset, allowing the architecture itself to perform functions that are typically delegated to technical building systems.
The project relies on locally available, minimally processed natural materials with low embodied energy, embracing a low-tech approach based on material efficiency, long-term durability and constructive simplicity.
